The Mummy Tag!

I was nominated to answer the Mummy Tag questions by the wonderful Bridie of Bridie by the Sea fame and my hilarious fellow Spice Girl fan Lauren who blogs at Loz and the Sprog! Check out their blogs, you will not be disappointed. It’s a pretty simple premise, you answer the questions! I’m dead nosy so I love reading these and thought I should probably answer them myself.

  1. Are you a Stay at Home Mum or a Working Mum?

I’m just coming up to the end of my maternity leave. I will be going back to work part time but I work for my husband’s family business and luckily I can be flexible and work around B and TM so we won’t need to arrange childcare or anything.

  1. Would you have it any other way?

As I’ve not actually gone back yet I don’t really know…I have loved being a stay at home mum but it might be nice to have another focus. Watch this space!

  1. Do you co-sleep?

No. Luckily TM has always been ok at sleeping in his cot (at night… During the day he thinks I am his living, breathing cot). I am always torn on this as it was drummed into me about safe sleeping and SIDS but I read a lot about attachment & gentle parenting and feel a little guilty that we haven’t ever co slept (bar a few cheeky naps). But he’s pretty happy in a cot like I say and it seems fairly counter- productive to change that! He only turned 6 months recently so we haven’t actually moved him out of our bedroom yet.

  1. What is your one must-have item for your baby?

I have loved using a wrap (or sling or carrier). It meant when he was tiny and just wanted to be held constantly that I could get myself some food or just get things done while he was all snuggled into me.

What could be better than drinking a beer while holding your child?!
  1. How many kids do you plan on having?

I’d definitely like another baby. I’m one of 4 so that would be my ideal but realistically 3 is more likely…who knows though? If we have a second we might decide it’s far too hard and not want more children! I feel very lucky to have TM though so if we can’t have more kids for any reason I am happy with our little family.

  1. Date nights? How often do you have them?

We don’t!! I am super lazy and haven’t ever sorted out expressing milk so we are quite limited as to how long we can leave TM for. We went to our local pub alone on my birthday but that’s about it. We go for lots of meals and drinks with TM in tow, though! Honestly, we love doing stuff as a family – I think as time goes on we will do more on our own again but for now we are a package deal!

  1. Your child’s favourite show?

He doesn’t really watch telly yet, but sometimes I put nursery rhymes on YouTube which he loves!

  1. Name one thing you bought before you had the baby and never ended up using?

We haven’t done too badly on this front as we got given lots as gifts or second hand. Probably a top and tail bowl. Just use two bloody bowls if you really need to or actually bath them!!

  1. Your child’s favourite food?

He doesn’t eat much yet so it’s hard to say…he seems to like pepper, toast and melon quite a lot!

  1. How many cars does your family have?

1 – we are a 15 minute walk to the town centre and 20 minutes to B’s work so it’s easy to walk most of the time.

  1. Weight gain, before pregnancy, during, after and now?

I think this is a weird question! I put on loads during pregnancy, lost quite a bit straight after the birth but seemed to put some back on. I’ve written about my size before… I really have better things to  worry about though, ha!

  1. Dream holiday with your kids?

I don’t know – I guess until he gets older and we know what he likes it’s hard to say. We went to Canada on our honeymoon and always said we’d love to go back to drive a campervan around the Rockies!! I think that would be amazing with older kids.

  1. Dream holiday without your kids?

Seeing friends in Australia and visiting New Zealand – the long flights put me off going with TM. But I wouldn’t actually go on holiday without him I don’t think…maybe a mini-break!

Me holding TM's hand when he was littler!

  1. How has your life changed since having kids?

You can’t be so selfish when you have a child, and it’s harder to be spontaneous. I drink less! I am happier and more content. We spend more time at home but we enjoy that…and I look a lot older!

  1. Finish the sentence “It makes my heart melt when…”

He laughs! I know everyone says that but it’s true. I love lying next to him and seeing the way he looks at me and touches my face – it’s like I’m the best person in all the world. (Obviously he does this to his Dad too, we are joint faves!) Oh and when he sucks his thumb. Most things, actually – he’s at an adorable age.

  1. Where do you shop for your kids?

We got given lots of stuff second hand and I buy eBay bundles or supermarket stuff usually. I’m not fussy, I like bright coloured clothes when I can get them. He tends to ruin a lot of clothes so I don’t like to spend much!

  1. Favourite make-up and skincare products?

I’m not big on make up really, just wear BB cream normally – mostly so I don’t get sunburnt!! I use Cetaphil cleanser and moisturiser as it’s quite gentle on your skin. My skin is pretty bad though so I probably should wear makeup but it becomes a vicious cycle!

  1. Huggies or Pampers?

We’ve always used Pampers, probably should try different brands but…we are lazy! I’d like to try cloth nappies but B refuses haha. I might sneakily borrow some from one of those cloth nappy libraries…I’ve given the game away now.

  1. Have you always wanted kids?

Yes! It was the one thing I knew I would try to do one day, I’ve never been particularly ambitious career wise or motivated by money or success. Family has always been very important to me and I’m very close to mine. I always hoped I’d be able to create my own one day. I was often told that I am quite maternal and luckily that has proved to be the case after having a baby, too!

  1. Best part of being a mum?

Just one thing?! I think seeing this happy little person and knowing you created them from a place of love and joy. That’s so cringe, sorry.

Cheeky chappy!

Some of those questions are strange, right?! Anyway, I believe I now have to tag some other mummy bloggers to answer them. I have lost track of who has done this now so I am nominating:

Jade – The Parenting Jungle

Karen – Two Tiny Hands

Sarah – Tammymum

Katie – Squirmy Popple

  1. I am an extremely nosey baby so I love this and finding out more about the people behind the blogs and tweets (which is a damned cheek when you think that I operate behind a cloak of anonymity 😉 ) I think it’s lovely what you say about the best thing about being a mum – and a baby’s laugh is the best x #puddinglove

  2. Am loving these Mum Tag posts – you get to learn so much about people. I couldn’t live without my sling either but like you I have never worked out why I need a top and tail bowl… Hope going back to work goes ok and you enjoy a slightly difference focus for a few hours. Thanks for linking with #PuddingLove x

  3. Top and tail bowls disgust me with their trickery towards new mums. Almost as much as the bath aid that resembles a stiletto heel.

Fab answers Ed, an altogether enjoyable read 😊

      1. Moo just slumps down in ours and looks like Warwick Davis. However, better than a mummy I met at a baby group who said she always makes her baby practise tummy time in a shallow bath 😱 made my insides go a bit weird x
